NONEGON (Novel Inhibitors targeting DXR in Neisseria Gonorrhoeae)

© Fraunhofer ITMP | Peter Ilgen

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Within NONEGON  Fraunhofer ITMP collaborates with partners from Turkey and Thailand on the development of novel inhibitors of the enzyme DXR (DXP reductoisomerase), that catalyzes the second step in the methylerithritol phosphate (MEP) pathway that is an essential biosynthetic pathway in bacteria. In the project Fraunhofer ITMP is responsible for a high-throughput screening campaign for novel enzyme inhibitors and characterization of the hits by affinity measurements.

AVITHRAPID (Antiviral Therapeutics for Rapid Response Against Pandemic Infectious Diseases)

In this project, coordinated by Fraunhofer ITMP, we intend to develop broad-spectrum antiviral substances. AVITHRAPID is funded by the European Commission (grant agreement number 101137192) and Swiss State Secretariat for Education, research and Innovation SERI. The consortium is composed of 18 partners from 8 countries and aims to develop several preclinical candidates starting from a pre-existing set of bioactive substances against various viral targets.
